It has been my great honor to continue the legacy of the
Conservatory Ballet and that of our founder, My Mother, Mrs. Julia Cziller Redick. I am very proud of the work the children have done in preparation of our ballet. They and the Conservatory staff have shown tremendous effort to
bring you such a high-caliber performance. We look forward to share the magic of "The Nutcracker" with the Reston community this holiday season.
Give the gift of ballet and the gifts of confidence, perseverance, humility, compassion, integrity, courage, patience, and self-control.
Trying ballet for the first time is a beautiful gift for all ages!
Our gift package includes a ballet program and a uniform.

IN GERMANY, NUTCRACKERS ARE TRADITIONALLY THOUGHT TO BRING GOOD LUCK AND ARE OFTEN GIVEN TO CHILDREN AT CHRISTMAS
THE STORY GOES THAT A WEALTHY FARMER WANTED TO SPEED UP HIS NUT PRODUCTION AND OFFERED A PRIZE FOR THE BEST SOLUTION. A PUPPET MAKER WON, WITH HIS WOODEN DOLL WITH A LEVER MOUTH.
THE NUTCRACKER IS A HOLIDAY TRADITION IN THE UNITED STATES, BUT ELSEWHERE IN THE WORLD THIS DELIGHTFUL BALLET IS ENJOYED YEAR-ROUND AND IS NOT PARTICULARLY ASSOCIATED WITH CHRISTMAS.
IN E.T.A. HOFFMAN'S ORIGINAL 1816 STORY, THE LITTLE GIRL WHO GOES ON AN ADVENTURE WITH HER NUTCRACKER IS NAMED MARIE, AND HER DOLL IS CALLED CLARA. THERE HAVE BEEN MANY ADAPTATIONS OF THE STORY SINCE THEN, AND THE CHARACTER IS SOMETIMES MARIE AND SOMETIMES CLARA. IN RUSSIA, SHE IS OFTEN CALLED MASHA, A VARIATION OF MARIE.
THAT DISTINCTIVE TINKLING MUSIC IN THE DANCE OF THE SUGAR PLUM FAIRY IS MADE BY A CELESTA. THE INSTRUMENT LOOKS LIKE A PIANO OR ORGAN, BUT ITS HAMMERS STRIKE METAL BARS INSTEAD OF STRINGS. TCHAIKOVSKY INTRODUCED THE CELESTA TO RUSSIA WITH HIS NUTCRACKER BALLET.
when Mrs. Redick fIrst Brought this show to Fairfax county, the county sent a letter of thanks for bringing culture to northern virginia.
